Last month I was a the Innovation Summit (https://2025.cloudconf.it/summit.html)
held in Turin, Italy, during the Cloud Conference. The conference was at the Lingotto, and
its history is pretty interesting:

In the early 1920s, Giovanni Agnelli, founder of FIAT, commissioned something never seen before:
a car factory with a one-kilometer rooftop test track.

His goal?
To create a vertical assembly line where raw materials entered at the bottom…
And finished cars would roll straight onto the rooftop to be tested at full speed.

🔵 Designed by engineer Giacomo Mattè-Trucco, the Lingotto factory in Turin became the most modern car plant in Europe.
Five stories high. Half a kilometer long. And capped with a racetrack in the sky.

Nearly a century later, the building still stands, reinvented by Renzo Piano into a public and cultural space.
But the rooftop track? It’s still there.

💡 Giovanni Agnelli didn’t just build a factory. He built a symbol of industrial imagination.
