๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ From a small shop in Adrano to building the first Italian road locomotive.

Giovanni Petronio Russo was a Sicilian genius, an engineer by instinct, and an artist by soul. Without completing formal studies, he taught himself physics and mechanics, and in 1871 he designed and built โ€œTrinacriaโ€, a steam-powered road locomotive ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ”ฅ:

โžก๏ธ The first self-propelled vehicle to travel on Italian roads ... not rails!
โžก๏ธ Powered by steam but fumeless โ˜๏ธโŒ
โžก๏ธ Could brake instantly ๐Ÿ›‘, climb slopes ๐Ÿš€, and curve smoothly ๐ŸŒ€

๐Ÿ‘€ In 1873, โ€œTrinacriaโ€ paraded through Rome and Catania, dazzling the press and public. But despite applause, no one invested, and his creation faded into obscurity.

๐Ÿ’ฅ Tricked in London, ignored by bankers, and almost bankrupted by his vision, Russo never gave up.

During the 1887 cholera epidemic, while others fled Adrano, Russo stayed to investigate. He discovered contaminated wells and built public fountains with clean water ๐Ÿ’ง๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ one crowned with a marble statue of the Virgin Mary he sculpted himself.

โš™๏ธ He also invented:

Acetylene lamp systems ๐Ÿ’ก
Transit mechanisms for trams ๐Ÿš‹
Machinery to lift lava stone columns for churches โ›ช
Custom carts to haul volcanic rock with a special steering system ๐Ÿ›ž

๐Ÿ˜” His final words, scribbled on a paper: โ€œMuoio di fame, di sete e di sonno. (I am dying of hunger, thirst, and sleep.)โ€

Yet his legacy was later revived, honored with postal stamps, exhibitions, and restored monuments.

๐Ÿ“œ A true forgotten visionary โ€” and perhaps Italyโ€™s steampunk prophet ahead of his time.
